Job Description

Lotus Place is a dedicated state-wide support service for people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings. Services are offered from three locations: Brisbane, Rockhampton, and Townsville. Lotus Place provides integrated peer support, advocacy, counselling, and other support services to people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings. Services provided include:

  • An information and resource gateway
  • Personal and skills development opportunities to seek access to government and community services
  • Support to seek redress of past abuse through the criminal justice system, civil processes or through church or religious intuitional processes
  • Support people to obtain personal records, reconnect with family and trace history
  • Access to professional support and counselling services Information and referral to other services

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Find and Connect Worker work as part of the Lotus Place Team to provide initial response, ongoing assistance and support to people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings who are searching for (or may have located) their records of care or other personal history searches.

This is a permanent part time employment opportunity with conditions and salary at Level 3 of the SCHADS Award.

 

Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide phone and webmail responses including information and referral to callers of the 1800 line for people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings
  • Provide face-to-face response to people attending Lotus Place who have an inquiry about Find and Connect Service
  • Inform and assist with the Verification of Care process for people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings seeking access to services at Lotus Place
  • Assist people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings to access counselling support for issues relating to their record search process and/or their time in care

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Relevant Human Services tertiary qualification and/or extensive experience, or a combination of experience, expertise, and competence
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working with people who have experienced disadvantage
  • Demonstrated ability to assist people with information gathering, personal record searching or similar.
  • An ability to learn and develop further knowledge and understanding of working with people who experienced childhood abuse in institutional settings
