Job Description

Home for Good works to find sustainable solutions for people who are homeless or for individuals, families and children who might become homeless without support. Based in inner-city Brisbane, the team provides information, support, advocacy, health, recreational and employment services to help people resolve crisis and secure long-term housing outcomes.

As a Support and Advocacy Worker, you will provide centre-based services with outreach elements to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. Through assessment, triage, advocacy and person-centred support, you will work alongside participants to resolve crisis, strengthen self-advocacy, access housing, healthcare and specialist services, and achieve sustainable outcomes.

There are 2 full-time employment opportunities at Level 4 of the SCHADS Award.

We have one 3-month contract and one 6-month contract available.

Desired Skills and Experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide centre based and outreach support through assessment, triage and individual support planning.
  • Work with participants to resolve crisis, access housing, healthcare, aged care, NDIS and other specialist services.
  • Advocate alongside participants and build strong relationships with community organisations and government agencies.
  • Develop, review and implement service and healthcare plans using the VI-SPDAT assessment tool.
  • Maintain accurate case notes, participant records and reporting in organisational systems.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team using trauma informed and harm minimisation approaches.

 

Essential Criteria:

  • Commitment to the vision, mission and values of Micah Projects.
  • Diploma in Community Services, Degree in Human Services or Social Work, or willingness to obtain a qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated engagement and interpersonal skills supporting people in crisis who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team and independently while building positive relationships with participants and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to cultural diversity, including First Nations people, and knowledge of equity and workplace health and safety principles.
  • Current driver's licence and willingness to work in community settings, including public spaces.

Desirable Criteria:

 

  • Experience supporting people experiencing homelessness through outreach, advocacy or community services.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary or community-based support teams.
  • Knowledge of housing, health and community service systems.
