Job Description
Brisbane Domestic Violence Service (BDVS) is the specialist domestic and family violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. Funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General, BDVS provides free and confidential services to adults and children impacted by domestic and family violence. Operating 24/7 across Brisbane, BDVS delivers crisis and case management, outreach, groups, safety planning, court support, information and referral, psycho‑social education, and programs for men who perpetrate DFV. BDVS leads the Brisbane Region High Risk Team and works within an integrated response to achieve safety and stability for individuals and families.
As a Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Advocate you will work as part of the BDVS team to support people affected by domestic and family violence to live free from abuse and promote change within community and systems to achieve safety, equality, and respect. You will provide trauma informed support, comprehensive risk assessment and safety planning, case coordination, referral, systemic advocacy, centre based and outreach responses, and court support at Holland Park and Richlands. You will collaborate across government and non‑government agencies to enhance victim safety and perpetrator accountability and maintain high-quality documentation and professional practice.

Desired Skills and Experience
Key Responsibilities:
Promote a culture of respect, safety, and trauma informed approaches.
Provide emotional support and specialist psychoeducation on DFV dynamics and risk.
Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop safety plans using evidence-based tools.
Deliver advocacy, referral, and case coordination focused on victim/survivor safety.
Work within an integrated response to enable access to legal, court, housing, and family supports.
Provide systemic advocacy and court support at Holland Park and Richlands, and deliver centre based and outreach strategies.
Essential Criteria:
Experience working with people in crisis, including risk assessment and safety and needs planning.
Knowledge of DFV theory and practice with a gendered analysis, using a trauma informed approach.
Ability to work with government and non‑government agencies in a case coordination model and rapidly acquire knowledge of the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act 2012 Section 5A Information Sharing, the Child Protection Act 1999, and an understanding of the Family Law Act.
Culturally sensitive practice with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Commitment to child and vulnerable adult safeguarding principles, strong communication and IT skills, and a positive, flexible, adaptive approach aligned with Micah Projects values, equity and WHS principles.
Blue Card, current driver’s license, and ability to travel.
