Job Description
BDVS is the specialist domestic violence service for the Brisbane metropolitan region. BDVS is funded by the Department of Justice and Attorney General to provide free and confidential services to adults and children who have been impacted by domestic and family violence. BDVS has a focus on achieving safety and stability for the individuals and families that we support.
The Domestic and Family Violence Specialist will work as part of the BDVS Safer and Accountable Men Program to support people affected by domestic and family violence to live free from abuse and promote change within community and systems to achieve safety, equality and respect.
This is a fixed term full time role with conditions and salary at Level 4/5 of the SCHADS Award.
Desired Skills and Experience
Key Responsibilities:
Support Victims: Provide emotional support, specialist psychoeducation, risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and case coordination for victims of domestic and family violence.
Integrated Response: Work within an integrated response framework to ensure smooth referrals and access to necessary services such as legal assistance, housing, and emergency accommodation.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with government and non-government agencies, emergency services, and community services.
Trauma-Informed Approach: Use a trauma-informed approach to support and advocacy.
Documentation: Maintain high-quality case notes and support plans.
Cultural Sensitivity: Provide services that adhere to principles of cultural sensitivity and assist with connection to culturally specific programs.
Essential Criteria:
Significant experience in crisis support and risk assessment.
Knowledge of domestic and family violence theory and practice.
Ability to work with government and non-government agencies.
Understanding of relevant legislation and regulations.
Commitment to cultural diversity and safeguarding principles.
Proficiency in IT systems and case management software.
Positive attitude and ability to work flexibly in a team environment.
